Tuesday, 2nd June 2020

Good morning!

This is your planning for today:

  • Prepare the next speaking exercise with Brian. Check the post where you will find the schedule (horario).

This exercise will be based on "Comet Swan". It will be very useful to take into account the information you have read yesterday: Comet Swan report by Brian.

In this activity there will be 3 parts:

1) Give as much information as possible about a picture:

Student A, will speak about picture A

    Picture A

Student B, will speak about picture B

     Picture B

2) Ask 2 questions about your picture to the other student.

3) Answer Brian's questions.

I recommend you to prepare this activity by written, to bring up as much ideas as possible. But remember, once you are on the speaking exercise you only have to speak, not read.

Make sure you are alone when you are online. In other activities, we saw people around you (they can cause noise problems) and wispering the answers to you...

  • Revise the vocabulary and grammar points on unit 9. On Friday I will post the kahoot.

Thank you.

Monday, 1st June 2020

Good morning!

This is your planning for today:

1) Check your homework. These are the answers:

2) Read this report about "Comet Swan". It is based on a real report. Brian made it simpler and shorter for you.

No, sorry!  It’s not a bird.  It’s not a plane.  It’s not even Superman.  : (
But it is a comet--a real comet!  : )
And a real comet can be seen in the pre-dawn sky—for real—right now. It’s called Comet SWAN.

This is a picture taken from the Canary Islands and posted on Twitter on the 10th of May.  The astronomers say that you have to use binoculars to see the comet.  And you have to wake up before the sun comes up.

Can you see that the comet is green?  That’s because it contains gases that burn green, rather than orange like a flame here on earth that burns from oxygen.
Comets are snowballs of frozen gas, rock, and dust that orbit the sun. When they pass close to our sun, they burn up a bit. As they melt and burn, they can develop a long gaseous tail.
And sometimes we can see the comet and its tail without any telescope or binoculars!  When we can, they are really, really cool!
Unfortunately, we in Madrid probably can’t see it because we have mountains to the north and west which is the section of the sky where the comet passes.  But if you can get to the Canary Islands between now and June 3rd, you might have a chance.

3) Now, copy these questions on your English notebook and answer them:

1) According to astronomers, how can you see comet Swan?

2) What time of the day is the most appropriate to see Comet Swan?

3) What is comet Swan made of?

4) How do comets build up their tails?

5) What the best place to see comet Swan and when? And the worst one?

Once you have finished, please, send me a photo of this exercise.

Thank you.

Friday, 8th May 2020

Good morning!

This is your planning for today:

1) Check your homework. These are the answers:

2) Write an email.
In this case, you will write an email to thecompany director. In our school, we are interested in his new products. You have to ask him or her some questions about them.

  • You must ask, at least, 3 questions. Make sure you write questions: remember, " I can go to the toilet" is NOT a questions. The question is: " Can I go to the toilet?".
  • You must include in your email at least 5 words of the unit: laptop, e-reader, tablet, password, dowload, click on... the ones you prefer.

As you can see, this email is not for a friend. So, the way you start and the way you must finish changes a little.

Follow these instructions:

1. Greet the person you are writing to.
When you write an email to a director, doctor, or any other person that you don't know, you must start the email writing:

Dear Sir or Madam,

Remember, Sir is for men and Madam for women. But if you don't know the genre, write both.

2. Say who are you.

3. Say why are you writing this email (what do you want).

4. Say thank you. Use this expression:

Thank you for your time. I am looking forward hearing from you.

I am looking forward hearing from you = Espero tu respuesta

5. Finish your email.
Always, if you start saying "Dear Sir or Madam,", you must finish the email saying:

                                        Yours faithfully,

6. Write your name and surname.

On your English book, page 84, you can find an example of this kind of email.

Please, send it to me by email before Monday, 11th. You can do it:

- On a Microsoft Office Word document.
- On a PDF document.
- On your English notebook. Take a photo and send it to me.

Revise all the unit (vocabulary, fisrt conditional, past passive) because next week I will post a kahoot.

Have a nice weekend!
